The association has collected together a considerable number of old photographs and other memorabilia. In particular a large collection of team and class photographs, some still mounted on annual display boards, others loose in a box, which were found at Humphry Davy School, were donated to the association by John Pollard, a deputy head at the school at the time and himself an Old Penwithian. These were all scanned to digital format. We also have an album of photographs that was the personal property of former headmaster Mr. Rising. This was kindly donated to the association shortly after his death by his widow Tean Rising. The contents of this album were also scanned. In an attempt to reach a wider audience our complete collection of images was uploaded to the “Picture Penzance” website. The images are contained in over forty albums, including one for each year 1945 to 1980 inclusive, and other albums titled “Staff”, “Buildings”, “Reunions”, “Art Craft & Science” and “Drama Productions”. Our collection of images at the Picture Penzance website can be found by selecting this link: PCS/HDGS Archive
In addition to this all of the original images in our collection have been re-scanned at high resolution and the whole collection has been uploaded to the Morrab Library Photographic Archive – the original photos have been donated to the Morrab Library for safe keeping. The Old Penwithians collection at the Morrab Library Photographic Archive is available online at http://photoarchive.morrablibrary.org.uk/collections/show/15 and is fully searchable. There are several photos on the Picture Penzance site that are not in the Old Penwithians collection at the Morrab Library because we never had the original photos.
We are still keen to add to the collection and welcome donations of original photographs, or scans of photographs. If you have photographs that you would like to add to our collection, or if you have any information about existing photographs in our collection please contact Bill Burnett – oldpenwithians@btinternet.com
